WonderQuest is very pleased to be releasing The New Thrill Parade’s third LP, Slumber in Colorland. The album marks a drastic maturation in the sound of the Santa Cruz/San Francisco sextet. This new full length captures the energy of the band’s frenetic live shows, while illustrating the density of their conceptual glom. Helmed by Mammatus knob-twiddler Aaron Emmert, Slumber In Colorland was recorded methodically over a grueling 10 month period in the hellishly remote apple orchard studio known as the Silent Planet. The album is limited to 500 LP’s and a small number of individualized cdrs (first 250 records to include cdrs).
The sound of Slumber in Colorland is dark and allegorical, merging a wide array of influences with a clear collective vision. Vocals swish effortlessly from a Nick Cave scowl to a Brian Ferry croon to a shrill Kate Bush purr. Guitars, bass, and drums pound out discordant waltzes and besotted foxtrots, alternately complimenting and masking the vocals. Saxophones blare and soothe. In the distance, the sweet strains of a scraped bedpan add a dirty wide-screen glow.
